  1. Review speeches that you posted on classroom in a group of 3 Why did it inspire you? What made the speaker strong?
  2. Nominate a few to listen to parts of → write down what we notice about these speeches
  3. Ted talk






  1. Life experiences that led you to where you are today: EX together: THE SIERRAS

Begin brainstorming what you could write about/share with class

Assessment: write and share your own personal speech from ONE of the following topics:
  1. An event that marked a turning point in your life
  2. A moment in which you were outside your comfort zone
  3. An experience in which you were the new person somewhere
  4. Key moment/s of your childhood that shaped you into who you are today.
  5. Other: (choose any other personal experience or part of your life that you’d like to write a speech about and get teacher approval)


Structure to think about:
Hook us in…
Theme? Main idea?
Main part of story--- use sensory language, imagery, put us in your shoes
Closing-- lesson , takeaways, etc

Length- 3-5 minutes. Write out 2-4 paragraphs and time yourself.  Pretty short.

what types of public speaking you've done in your life? (ex: 3rd grade spelling bee, 8th grade debate, radio show)
